  • Forest inventory is defined as the independent examination of forest lands and their development in the Czech Republic.
  • In the long term, the programme consists of repetitive examinations which facilitate reporting on the state of the forests.
  • Mathematics – the statistical method of collecting, executing and analysis of the collected forest data.
  • The forest's ecosystem.
  • Goals include a research path towards a complete understanding of the forest.
  • Maintaining complex research data.

Initiated in 2001, the Czech Republic's Forest Inventory is a unique project in Czech forest history due to its conceptual scope. The Forest Management Institute Brandýs nad Labem and its cooperative branches are accredited to manage the project. The project mandate is layed out in the government decree no: 193/2000 Coll; as amended to the forest law no: 289/1995 Coll. §28. The Ministry of Agriculture supervises the project which will run from 2001 through 2004.

Data is collected using the most modern equipment and the work is executed by highly educated experts. The data is collected in forest inventory plots located in the network (on 2 square kms). This practice makes it possible for the research to be varified or repeated on the same sites within a random time period as executed within the forest inventory area.
